Rick's Projects
I have started remodeling the house, one room at a time. I finished the two entry
foyers and the den about a year ago. This year it was time to move on to the dining
room and kitchen. The photo below shows the new entry from the den.
I made the new cabinets out of quater sawn oak. With the exception of the sink
bases, all the lower cabinets are all drawers on full extension slides. The drawers
provide much more useful storage than doors/shelves. All the moldings were made in
the shop out of MDF.
All of the drawers are made of 5/8" poplar, assembled with half blind dovetails. A few of
the drawers have dividers to keep smaller items such as flatware and utensils seperated.
By offsetting the oven to the right I was able to increase the width of the drawers on
the left side to provide handy storage for pots and pans. The narrow drawers are sized
to fit sheet pans and muffin pans.
Although it is a cabinet, this looks like a piece of furniture. It is used to store china,
replacing a free standing china cabinet. To the left of the framed opening you can see
the "library panels" that are used in the dining area to visually seperate it from the
kitchen area.
